Legatics, the transaction management platform used by leading law firms globally, today announced a partnership with Syntheia, the legal technology company behind Syntheia Compare, that will bring document comparison directly into the Legatics platform. The integration will let lawyers generate a blackline between two documents without leaving the matter, and marks the start of a wider collaboration between the two companies. Document compare launches in both Legatics Lists and data rooms from August 25.
Document compare opens from the file menu on a Word document already in Legatics. The user selects the two document versions to compare and the blackline opens in Legatics’ built-in viewer, ready to review or download. The comparison runs entirely inside Legatics’ infrastructure, so the underlying files never leave the platform.
“Comparing document versions is one of the most repeated tasks on a transaction, and until now it meant downloading both files and running them through a separate tool,” said Rob MacAdam, Chief Strategy & Product Officer at Legatics. “Bringing Syntheia’s comparison technology directly into Legatics removes that time-consuming detour. Checking whether the amendments you agreed have actually been made, or seeing exactly what the other side has drafted, now takes seconds and can be done right where the documents already are.”

What the integration brings to firms
- Blacklines without leaving the matter. Compare two versions of a Word document in a couple of clicks, from inside Lists or data rooms, from August 25.
- Nothing leaves Legatics. The comparison runs inside Legatics’ own infrastructure, so files aren’t sent to a third party.
- Included at no extra cost. Document compare is available to all Legatics customers, with the system admin controlling who can use it.
- Built for the whole deal team. Available to law firm users, their clients and other external participants on the matter, subject to the hosting firm’s settings.
The start of a broader partnership

They compare bidders against each other, they track how a position has shifted over a negotiation and they want to know whether what they’ve agreed is normal for this kind of deal.
